While Powhatan's physical plant and furniture are getting a bit run down, the competence and caregiving from the staff is top notch and quite reliable.

There was lots of available parking at their facility. I was glad that I didn't have to drive around looking for parking. I love how much attention to detail they show.
I would strongly suggest checking out Powhatan. It was a smaller facility that seemed to be well-managed. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we thought the care was good, so we were happy with it. They are trying hard to care for my loved one.

They answered all of our questions and were very informative. They were very accommodating and the staff was very helpful and friendly. This community is a little more on the pricey side, however the staff is amazing they are very caring. Overall, everyone's very friendly, when you come into the facility they greet you and they're very helpful. My mom just needs assistance with things, she's not independent, they handle all of the medications but my mother hasn't had any complaints and believe me she would tell me. My mom, believe it or not, is not one to go to activities, but I think she's slowly venturing out. She'll be 88 but she's not senile whatsoever, so I think some of the activities may be geared towards people who aren't so with it.

It was easy enough to get in and get out. They allow him to leave without any particular notice. They are bigger and they allow the people to decorate them and bring things in. They’ve had them painted and they do all kinds of other things that are very accommodating so people can bring in a little bit of home with them and still be comfortable.
Hickory Hill provides wonderful care, great food, and excellent medical attention. The staff is very responsive to resident and family member special requests. The food is true Southern home cooking.
